Behind-the-Scenes: 2015 Ford Mustang Camouflage

Tuesday, December 31st, 2013

We already know that Ford knows quite a bit about cars. But did you know it’s also an expert in camouflage?

When building the next generation of automobiles, especially one as important as the all-new 2015 Mustang, it can be difficult to road test the models without attracting attention. And when it comes to the Mustang, which has now been going strong for 50 years, the attention from auto paparazzi is even greater. According to Ford, it took less than an hour for spy shots to appear online after the Mustang was taken on public roads for the very first time back in June.

But Ford had come prepared. An entire design team worked on the Mustang’s camouflage, creating and putting in place hard plastic, foam, vinyl, and ratchet straps to alter its appearance and mislead spectators. That really got our curiosity-sense tickled here at Hassett Automotive, so we figured we would the video that talks all about the camouflage process:

Subaru “Reintroduces” WRX at L.A. Auto Show

Monday, December 9th, 2013

The L.A. Auto Show has been over for a few days now, but here at Hassett Automotive, we’re still reeling—along with the rest of the automotive world—from the shocking reintroduction of the Subaru WRX. The WRX has always been an impressive, performance-driven  sports car—it was inspired by rally-racing vehicles, after all—but it’s never been quite this awe-inspiring, according to no less an authority than Subaru itself.

The 2015 WRX comes with a 2.0L direct-injection turbo BOXER engine, which allows the WRX 268 horsepower. But the most exciting changes for this new edition of the car come in the car’s handling. A Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system and a new “torque vectoring system” give the care incredibly intricate, smooth, and responsive handling. “It wasn’t enough to simply turn your knuckles white,” Subaru brags. “We wanted to keep them that way.”

There’s simply no part of the WRX that wasn’t redesigned and optimized for this jaw-dropping new edition of the car. We can’t wait for it to hit dealers—check back with us often for updates on the 2015 WRX.

The First CNG-Capable Ford F-150 is Here

Monday, November 25th, 2013

When trying to improve fuel economy across America and reduce harmful emissions, you have to look at what people are driving. And with the Ford F-150 holding the title of best-selling truck for the last half decade, you don’t have to look very far. This is why it was such a big deal when Ford announced it was making a CNG-capable F-150, a truck that can run on cleaner-burning, cheap compressed natural gas.

And now, it’s finally here. The first-ever CNG-capable 2014 Ford F-150 has rolled off the assembly line in Kansas City and thousands more are coming. Ford expects to offer eight more CNG-capable models by next summer and aims to sell more than 15,000 this year.

When equipped with a bi-fuel CNG/LPG engine package, the 3.7-liter V6 F-150 can achieve more than 750 miles on combined tanks of gasoline and CNG, with an EPA-estimated rating of 23 mpg highway and 19 mpg combined.

Get your hands on one of the first at Hassett Automotive.

Summer Car Maintenance (Part 2)

Friday, July 26th, 2013

A couple weeks ago we did a blog with a few summer car maintenance tips. Just to recap, those tips were: Check your tires, Change your oil and oil filter, and de-winterize your car. But that’s just a few of the many things you can do to make sure your car is good-to-go for the summer months. Today we’d like to take a second and go over a few more things you can do to make sure your car keeps running strong during the hottest time of the year.

  • Check all the belts and hoses. The key to keeping your engine happy in the summer is keeping it cool. And just like you would want some nice cold water to keep you cool on a hot day, your car needs some coolant to keep it cool. So make sure all those hoses and belts under the hood are in good working order (AKA no cracks or leaks).
  • Your cars air filter can get clogged with sand and salt over the winter months, so to make sure your car can breathe, and is getting maximum MPG, change your air filter. The DOE even states that replacing a clogged filter can improve mileage by as much as 10 percent.
  • Summer’s are notorious for thunderstorms that pop-up out of nowhere. Make sure your ready to take on a torrential downpour with some fresh wiper blades. They’re not too expensive and you can get them at most department stores.

Keep checking our blog for the third and final installment of Summer Car Maintenance Tips which should be up sometime in the next couple weeks. And remember – Hassett Automotive is here for all your car care needs! If you need any help getting your car back in tip top shape, give us a call.

Check out the New WRX Concept

Tuesday, June 4th, 2013

Over the years the Subaru WRX has become synonymous with speed and rally racing. It’s simply one of the best built, fastest, and coolest looking performance vehicles on the road today. And while it’s always fun to look at the WRX’s past, we would like to go ahead and take a look at the future of the Subaru WRX.

Earlier this year at the New York Auto Show, Subaru took the covers off of the all new WRX concept and let us see what we can be looking forward to. Unfortunately, there is not too much information available at this time about what is going to be under the hood, but we do know that Subaru has made many changes to this car as far as performance goes, and as you can see from the pictures below, the exterior of this concept car is fierce, sleek, and bold.

Here’s an excerpt from a Subaru press release that give a little more information on the new WRX: “Considerably lower, sleeker and wider, the Subaru WRX Concept delivers even more street presence than previous generations of WRX. The new grille design is larger and bolder and sets off the classic WRX hood scoop. A pronounced powerbulge provides clearance for the new turbocharged engine and intercooler. A prominent hexagonal grille form and deep lower valences with air intakes are designed to enhance aerodynamics, add downforce and aid engine cooling.”

All of us here at Hassett can’t wait to see what comes of the new WRX concept. Hopefully you will be able to come see it here at our dealership either this year or next. Keep checking our blog and Facebook page for more updates!

Ford Takes Passenger Comfort to the Next Level

Wednesday, March 20th, 2013

These days, car manufactures are always trying to make drivers more comfortable by pampering them with luxurious features such as leather wrapped steering wheels, heated seats, ambient lighting, or dual-zone climate control – and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that! In fact, most new Ford vehicles have those features. But Ford has taken driver and passenger comfort to the next level in their new vehicles by only using safe materials, and adding an air filter that blocks harmful airborne particles from entering the car.

In a press release written by Ford not too long ago, they said, “Ford has begun requiring that more than 100 materials and components meet stringent standards to minimize potential allergy issues on the new Fusion and other Ford vehicles.” The materials that Ford is staying away from are things like latex, chrome, nickel, and any other material that people could be allergic too.

As for the cabin air filter, you’ll be glad Ford decided to start putting these in their new cars the next time you get behind a semi truck that is spewing black smoke. According to Ford, “Cabin air filters improve driving comfort by reducing particle concentration, improve cleanliness and protect climate control components from particle deposits. These filters also capture soot, smog and tobacco smoke.

If you’re interested in test driving a new Ford and experiencing these new features first hand, give us a call or stop by Hassett Automotive today.

Subaru Impreza Named Best Compact Car

Friday, March 1st, 2013

Just a couple days ago renowned reviewed company Consumer Reports unveiled their list of “Top Picks for 2013”, and we are happy to say that Subaru made the list! Consumer Reports broke the list down into 10 car categories, ranging from minivan to luxury car, and named a winner for each category. The winners were chosen based on three things: the road test, reliability, and safety.

After all was said and done, the Subaru Impreza came out on top of the compact car category! According to Consumer Reports, “Subaru’s 2012 redesign breathed new life into the all-wheel-drive Impreza. Both sedan and hatchback versions are good, sensible cars, with nimble handling and a compliant, absorbent ride that rivals some luxury sedans. Fuel economy is impressive for an AWD car. And the roomy interior, spacious rear seat, simple controls, and refreshingly good visibility make it easy to live with.”

Congrats Subaru! If you would like to take the best compact car out for a test drive, we have several on our car lot right now! Stop by Hassett Automotive and take one for a spin today.

Ford Fiesta Makes List of Best Cars for Under 20K

Monday, January 28th, 2013

Anyone searching for a new or used car usually only has one thing on his or her mind – value. This little 5-letter word is what it’s all about when it comes to getting a car. People want to be sure they are getting a car that will run strong for many years down the road and not break the budget on gas or repair costs.

With that said, New York Daily News recently did an article on the top 5 cars for under $20,000, and guess what? The Ford Fiesta made the list. That’s right. Coming in at a starting price of $13,200, the Ford Fiesta not only made the list, it came in thousands of dollars under to $20,000 limit. According to NY Daily News, “It’s always a party when you can get good drivability, impressive gas mileage, and sedan or hatchback options, both for under $15,000. Inside the subcompact Fiesta, there’s room for people over 6 feet and enough price-controlled options to keep drivers of any height happy on their daily commutes. Speaking of happiness, a return of 39 highway MPG (or 40 with the SFE Package) is enough reason alone to keep Fiesta drivers jolly all year long.”

Needless to say, all of us here at Hassett Automotive are thrilled that the Fiesta is getting the recognition it deserves. Interested in taking on for a test drive? Stop by Hassett Automotive, or give us a call at 866-525-9066.
