Subaru WRX and WRX STI Get New Starlink Infotainment System

Friday, May 15th, 2015

Starlink infotainment systemThe Subaru WRX and WRX STI already have all they could possibly want when it comes to power and handling, so the upgrades they’ll be getting for the 2016 model year will be in the form of extra safety and convenience technologies.

All models are getting the new 6.2-inch Starlink infotainment system, including a rearview camera. Vehicles with navigation will get a 7-inch version.

The top-of-the-line Limited trim with Sport Lineartronic transmission (a fancy name for a CVT) gets the new EyeSight system as an option, which includes adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, lane departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. The six-speed manual gets blind spot detection and rear cross traffic alert instead.

In addition, the WRX STI Limited is now available with a low-profile rear trunk spoiler. We prefer the big wing at Hassett Automotive, but the spoiler comes at no additional cost, so it’s definitely a bargain if the big wing doesn’t seem worth the money to you!

Subaru WRX STI Makes 2015 Hagerty Hot List

Wednesday, April 1st, 2015

2015 Hagerty Hot ListLimited edition cars have always been rarer than their mass produced counterparts so it isn’t a surprise it’s those models that make it onto the 2015 Hagerty Hot List. The collector car experts over at Hagerty release an annual list naming what vehicles are most likely to be collectibles in 25 years.

To qualify, vehicles must be produced in the current year, cost less than $100,000, and special consideration goes to new launches not already on previous lists.

This year Subaru made its way onto the list, which also included the Dodge Challenger Hellcat (#5), Mustang GT Performance Package (#6), and Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (#4). The Subaru WRX STI Launch Edition took the number nine spot. Starting at $38,190, it’s one of the less expensive models but according to the experts, it packs a punch.

Hagerty’s reasons for selecting the Subaru WRX STI Launch Edition are what we would expect. With a turbocharged Boxer four cylinder engine, advanced suspension, and a stiff body, the STI is very similar to a rally car. The acceleration is more than enough to give any enthusiast’s heart a jumpstart and, as a limited Launch Edition, there’s no doubt collectors will want this car for their collections within the next 25 years.

Well, thank goodness for helpful people and Subaru WRX’s. See, a police car recently got stuck in a snow storm, and it wasn’t a big tow truck that came to bail the officer out, no – it was a Subaru WRX. Check out the video for yourself below:

Subaru “Reintroduces” WRX at L.A. Auto Show

Monday, December 9th, 2013

The L.A. Auto Show has been over for a few days now, but here at Hassett Automotive, we’re still reeling—along with the rest of the automotive world—from the shocking reintroduction of the Subaru WRX. The WRX has always been an impressive, performance-driven  sports car—it was inspired by rally-racing vehicles, after all—but it’s never been quite this awe-inspiring, according to no less an authority than Subaru itself.

The 2015 WRX comes with a 2.0L direct-injection turbo BOXER engine, which allows the WRX 268 horsepower. But the most exciting changes for this new edition of the car come in the car’s handling. A Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system and a new “torque vectoring system” give the care incredibly intricate, smooth, and responsive handling. “It wasn’t enough to simply turn your knuckles white,” Subaru brags. “We wanted to keep them that way.”

There’s simply no part of the WRX that wasn’t redesigned and optimized for this jaw-dropping new edition of the car. We can’t wait for it to hit dealers—check back with us often for updates on the 2015 WRX.

Check out the New WRX Concept

Tuesday, June 4th, 2013

Over the years the Subaru WRX has become synonymous with speed and rally racing. It’s simply one of the best built, fastest, and coolest looking performance vehicles on the road today. And while it’s always fun to look at the WRX’s past, we would like to go ahead and take a look at the future of the Subaru WRX.

Earlier this year at the New York Auto Show, Subaru took the covers off of the all new WRX concept and let us see what we can be looking forward to. Unfortunately, there is not too much information available at this time about what is going to be under the hood, but we do know that Subaru has made many changes to this car as far as performance goes, and as you can see from the pictures below, the exterior of this concept car is fierce, sleek, and bold.

Here’s an excerpt from a Subaru press release that give a little more information on the new WRX: “Considerably lower, sleeker and wider, the Subaru WRX Concept delivers even more street presence than previous generations of WRX. The new grille design is larger and bolder and sets off the classic WRX hood scoop. A pronounced powerbulge provides clearance for the new turbocharged engine and intercooler. A prominent hexagonal grille form and deep lower valences with air intakes are designed to enhance aerodynamics, add downforce and aid engine cooling.”

All of us here at Hassett can’t wait to see what comes of the new WRX concept. Hopefully you will be able to come see it here at our dealership either this year or next. Keep checking our blog and Facebook page for more updates!
